New Chop House Brew
- Posted: 18th August 2017
The new Chop House brew hit our fridges recently, freshly produced & bottled by our team through at Drygate Brewery. It’s grapefruit spiked pilsner made with funky malts & hops boasting the light characteristics of a classic pilsner. The addition of a hint of grapefruit juice makes it a fantastic beer to be enjoyed thought the Summer months. We recently caught up with master brewer Jake from Drygate to find out more about our new brew & pick his brain on all things beer.
Q: Jake, give us a run down on the new Chop House brew, malts & hops used etc.
A: It’s a tasty, light pilsner with a hint of grapefruit using lager malt, hallertau & blanc hops.
Q: What got you into brewing?
A: I have always loved beer and the craft beer movement intrigued me as to how versatile the ingredients used can be. I thought I would try it myself and it still amazes me.
Q: Your stuck on a desert island, what one beer do you take with you?
A: A German white beer called Berliner Kindl Weisse. It’s not everyones cup of tea (or beer) as it’s quite sour but it’s very light and I love it.
Q: What’s your favourite city in the world for beer?
A: San Diego & Portland Oregon as in my opinion they are the two centres for craft beer in the world, between them having some of the best breweries out there.
Q: If you owned your own bar what would you call it?
A: “Conflict Of Interests” The reason being a secret
Q: Favourite food & beer combination?
A: Kriek & chocolate brownie. I have a pretty sweet tooth & I love the way the sour cherries & chocolate work together.
Q: In 5 years time, what will you be doing?
A: I’d love to open my own brewery & tap room somewhere in the central belt, Glasgow or Edinburgh.
A big thank you for taking the time to speak with us & we hope to see you and the Drygate team at the Chop House Edinburgh for some tasty steak & enjoy the new brew.
Cheers
